Cost Saving Factors

Reason 1:

The argument goes:

      • That bitumen road crossing is supposedly cheaper to install.
      • Though do you realize there is a serious risk and consequences of using this cheap alternative?
      • The bitumen is usually down for many years, but during that period the track and rail is deteriorating at a fast rate.  A fifty year lifespan of a Rail line can be reduced to five years.
      • Rail tracks require constant maintenance - Tamping and rail grinding, clip inspection along with sleeper condition.  It’s almost impossible to do this procedure 100% with bitumen.
      • J.D Rail Fast Fit Crossover may appear more expensive per panel over bitumen.  Though the cost saving are immediate because only 2 men are required to fit our Crossover, and panels can be fitted or removed in minutes, not hours.
      • Trains can continue at normal speeds keeping scheduled times.
      • J.D Rail Fast Fit Crossover allows you to keep a well maintained CrossOver with no dangerous dips in the track, all clips are accounted for and secured correctly and all rail grinding is up to date preventing scouring and damage to train wheels. 
      • Easy maintenance prevents sleeper pumping – does not interfere with drainage or loss of Track Material.  No hidden trapped pockets of rain water (rusting the rail).
      • In the event of an accident, no nosey insurance companies asking to see records of the maintenance period, suggesting the accident could have been prevented if this segment of track under the bitumen crossing had been maintained correctly. 
      • Insurance premiums may come down or should not go up. 
      • Less stress for the Track Inspectors and employees knowing the track under the JD Road / Rail Crossing, is easy to inspect therefore  has been correctly maintained.

    Reason 2:

    The following are not required:

    • No Clout Nails or securing pickets.
    • No road foundation blocks or road preparation or disturbance.
    • No road rollers for compaction.
    • No expensive Lifting Cranes.
    • No all day Track and road shutdown.
    • No Track jig – stencils or even a measuring tape.
    • No large crews for installation (two men only).
    • No hammers, chisels, crowbars, vibrating tools, road rollers, excavators, torque wrench or special tools.
    • No shrinkage – resin drying or powdering – cracking – springs – plates – levers – pulleys – chain - securing rods.

Absolutely minimum components (in fact only 2 components).

Reason 3:

No disturbance to road.

3 point installation:

  • Clear away excess ballast from top of sleepers (ties).
  • Fit locking Saddles.
  • Lower panels and check seating.

    Road / Rail Crossing finished.

Reason 4: Minimal maintenance required – no wearing parts – Inspection only.

Reason 5: No damage to rail from excavator bucket teeth or rollers or vibration (this equipment is not necessary.)

Fast and Easy Installation

 

Reason 8: In one day, it is possible to install 154m (500ft) with 4 men or even up to 308m (1000ft) with 8 men of Rail / Road Crossing.

Reason 9: Panels are 3 metre lengths for fast fitting.  Covering six sleepers to maximize the sleeper strength and traffic weight distribution.

Reason 10: Quick installation, minimal personnel and equipment:

        • Hiab or mini crane with 2 Tonne lift capacity.
        • 2-man crew can fit double lane in 1 hour.
        • 1 x 12 inch Adjustable spanner and 1inch socket and ratchet.
        • No need for rail traffic speed restriction (work between trains)   
        • Minimal road Traffic disruption.

Reason 11:  No university degree required to understand installation procedure.

Reason 12: No cement bonding or rubber accelerators or chemicals required, no complicated mixes, no confusing the crewmembers when labels are lost when

chemicals have been in storage.

Track Maintenance
